Simplicity

My main goal for the capstone project is to try to find a feasible, realistic solution that can the millions of refugees around the world. Considering the positives and negatives of the countries that I decided to investigate, one aspect that is consistent in all of these programs is The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Refugee Agency. The UNHCR has helped millions of refugees through their service and helped resettled many refugees. The constant problem with all of these nation's and their programs is the inadequate number of refugees admitted to this programs. In 2017, UNHCR submitted the files of over 75,100 refugees for consideration by resettlement countries. Compared to the amount of over 25 million refugees, this number is unacceptable. One reason that there are very few refugees being resettled is the pilling amount of blacklash against refugees that have grown from hate and stereotypes. This has lead countries to decrease their quota or not increase it enough.

My solution is to continue to have The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees continue to lead the initiative of registering refugees and submitting them to the resettlement process. I do also want to keep the necessary interviews and background checks but confirm that this process is done in an efficient and timely manner. The countries would be able to select the candidates that they wish to be accepted into their country but the major aspect to this operation is the number of the refugees admitted and resettled is increased and continues to be increased. I believe that the amount should increase 2%, at the minimum every year. There should also be no discrimination against a candidate because of their country of origin. I believe that it is the nations' in the United Nations duty to help the people of the world who have no home to turn to.

The International Organization of Migration (IMO) would safely transport the refugees from their current location to their country of resettlement. Immediately, they would be put in classes in language, culture, education, and more that would help them assimilate to that country's society. The children would be put into school within the first month of resettlement. For the next two years, the government would provide assistance with the aspects of the new life; employment, housing, healthcare, education, and daily needs. There should also be programs that help refugees deal with mental and physical trauma that they may have experienced.

The refugees would be given a protective status, which means that they are able to work, and live in the country but aren't full citizens. Refugees can apply for citizenship.

My solution encompasses the current framework but has improvements that will enable more refugees to achieve a normal, new life.
